first_imgShamar Charles, who had been made to answer four robbery-under-arms charges before two Georgetown Magistrates earlier this month, was on Friday further remanded to prison when he reappeared before Magistrate Leron Daly.The first charge Charles faces allege that on July 27, 2018, while in the vicinity of Houston, East Bank Demerara; while being in the company of others; and while being armed with a gun, he robbed Devindra Persaud of one Samsung cellphone valued at $120,000, and of $50,000 in cash.Charles denied the allegation when it was read to him by Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore.He also appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on three robbery-under-arms charges, all of which he denied.One of those charges read that on July 25, 2018, while in the vicinity of Bagotstown, EBD, and while being armed with a gun, he robbed Debby Atwell of a quantity of jewellery valued at $230,000.Another charge allege that on July 24, 2018, at Eccles, EBD, while being in the company of others and while being armed with a gun, he robbed Ellis Valenzuela of a cellphone valued at $14,000.The last charge allege that on that same day and in the vicinity of Eccles, while being in the company of others and while being armed with a gun, Charles robbed Weifins Wong of a quantity of jewellery, cash, and a cellphone, all valued at $2.6 million.The Police prosecutor objected to Charles being placed on bail due to the seriousness of the offences and the fact that a gun was used in committing the crimes.Charles was again refused bail, and was further remanded to prison.
