This is because he believes that the both the island and the seabed around it are of archaeological importance.MIDI was set up in 1992 in response to an international call by the Government for the redevelopment of Tigné Point and Manoel Island. By virtue of a public deed, the company had acquired the Emphyteutical Land at Tigné Point and Manoel Island from the Government of Malta for 99 years. These commenced in June 2000.Read: Planning Authority gives green light to Manoel Island developmentIn March 2019, the PA gave MIDI the green light for the planned mega-development on Manoel Island. The outline development permit, which is an amendment to the one approved in 1999, grants the construction of 610 apartments on Manoel Island. However, Cassola states that due to infilling around the island’s coast, archaeological remains may lie buried, undiscovered. He concludes that “the island itself and the sea surrounding it are an area of archaeological importance”, which is why he stresses that no permit should be issued prior to an archaeological investigation. He attached a 1909 “Valletta Harbours” Admiralty chart (nautical chart) which shows how the British authorities at the time had infilled the coast around Manoel Island, particularly the South coast. Manoel Island had been taken over by the British military in 1800 and remained under their jurisdiction until Independence in 1964.Read: ‘Clay pottery remains found around Manoel Island’ – CassolaFurthermore, in March, Cassola had explained that after a press conference he did with archaeologist Reuben Grima, a British man had taken to Facebook to post pictures of broken pottery from the Roman era found at the Manoel Island site. He had also said that he had spoken to another person who brought him pieces of broken pottery he had picked off the coast.Arnold Cassola – FacebookAccording to Cassola, the man had explained that the pieces of pottery were found close to the coast while diving with his team to survey the area. The British man had said that there is a chance that, apart from pottery, there is also a shipwreck of a vessel discovered during the Royal Fleet days, from when it was based on Manoel Island.WhatsApplast_img read more

first_imgFulham were within 90 minutes of Premier League football last week, but a 3-1 defeat means that they will have to go through the playoffs for the second season in a row and they have a tough task as they head to Derby County tonight.Fulham finished 13 points clear of Derby after 46 league games this season, but the Rams will take plenty of heart from their 4-1 win over Barnsley on the final day of the season to book their spot here. They showcased their attacking talents with goals from Cameron Jerome, Matej Vydra, David Nugent and Tom Lawrence – all before half time. Vydra is the league’s top scorer whilst Jerome’s goal was his third in four games, so Derby will be confident of hurting Fulham upfront.Fulham will feel they fell at the last hurdle given that victory at Birmingham would have given them automatic promotion, and perhaps nerves set in for the Cottagers. The week before they’d only just beaten Sunderland, two performances that are well below the standard they’d shown in a 24-game unbeaten run.For goals, the visitors will look towards Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serbian striker has scored in 10 of his 14 appearances for Fulham since moving from Newcastle on loan and no Championship player has scored more goals than Mitrovic’s tally of 12 in 2018. He looks worth backing at 7/2 to score first as he’s scored first in 6 of the 10 games he’s scored in.It also looks likely that this game will be tight. When the pair played each other earlier this season, the games finished 1-1 at Craven Cottage in November while Fulham won 2-1 at Pride Park Stadium in March. Fulham have conceded in seven of their last 11 wins, so perhaps backing a repeat of their 2-1 win at what is a tempting 15/2.The last five games between these two have seen both teams score and so have seven of Derby’s last eight matches at Pride Park. Derby don’t have the strongest defensive record, however – with just three clean sheets in their last 16 games – and that could hurt them at this level.Derby County v FulhamChampionship Play-Off Semi-Final 1st Leg19:45 Sky Sports Football / Sky Sports Main EventHEAD TO HEAD RECORD(Maximum 10 matches)Mar 2018 CHAMPIONSHIP Derby 1-2 FulhamNov 2017 CHAMPIONSHIP Fulham 1-1 DerbyApr 2017 CHAMPIONSHIP Derby 4-2 FulhamDec 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP Fulham 2-2 DerbyFeb 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP Fulham 1-1 DerbyDec 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP Derby 2-0 FulhamFeb 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP Fulham 2-0 DerbyOct 2014 CAPITAL ONE CUP Fulham 2-5 DerbyAug 2014 CHAMPIONSHIP Derby 5-1 FulhamMar 2008 PREMIER Derby 2-2 FulhamMitrovic to score first and a 2-1 Fulham correct score are the recommendations on starsports.betRECOMMENDED BETS (scale of 1-100 points)BACK MITROVIC TO SCORE FIRST 2 points win at 11/2 (see specials below) with starsports.betBACK FULHAM WIN 2-1 2 points win at 15/2 with starsports.betPROFIT/LOSS SINCE JAN 1 2017: PROFIT 152.83 pointslast_img read more

In a statement The Intercept said that Thompson had been fired in January 2016 after it was found out he had fabricated sources and quotes. On Thompson’s Twitter feed, he appears to be advocating favorable opinions of communism, an ideology that left 100 million dead in the 20th century, and Marxism. “The FBI just visited me and asked if I was a Marxist. I said ‘By Marxist do you mean a defender of humanity?’” he tweeted. He also wrote in February: “I’m no liberal. And I believe every millionaire and billionaire should be robbed of their wealth. #resist.” Then he wrote a few days later: “We don’t want America like NY, we want it like Havana.”  His background picture is “Raising the Banner” by Geliy Korzhev, a Russian communist painter who painted in the Soviet-approved style of Socialist Realism.” The “banner” appears to be a red communist flag.(Twitter/screenshot) (Twitter/screenshot)On Twitter, Thompson follows a number of pro-Marxist and pro-communist Twitter accounts, retweeting posts from some of these accounts, including one that reads, “Happy New Year Comrades,” which shows a communist hammer-and-sickle symbol next to “1917-2017,” referencing the start of the Bolshevik revolution in 1917. He’s also tweeted a number of posts critical of President Donald Trump.  According to the Times, the complaint said Thompson claimed he had placed two bombs at a Jewish school in Michigan, saying he was “eager for Jewish newtown,” referring to the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Conn.Related CoverageArrest Made in National Threats to Jewish Community CentersCommunism: The Dead-End PathAs the paper noted, he’s likely not responsible for most of the threats against Jewish centers around the country in recent days. first_img Louisiana Sheriff Calls for Boycott of Ford Over NFL Sponsorship By Bowen Xiao October 13, 2017 Updated: October 13, 2017 Share this article Share  LINKEDINPINTERESTREDDITTUMBLRSTUMBLEUPON   US News As players from the NFL continue to kneel during the national anthem in protest, a Sheriff in Louisiana is taking things a little further—boycotting companies that continue to support the NFL.Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington told a local Ford dealership that his police department will stop buying Ford police vehicles as long as the carmaker advertises with the League.Whittington wrote a letter to Hixson Ford in Alexandria, Louisiana, and said that the disrespect from NFL players has forced him to “take a stand.”“Yes, the NFL players have a right to protest as they deem necessary, but we, the Bossier Sheriff’s Office and taxpayers of Bossier Parish have a right to spend our money elsewhere,” he wrote in the letter.“The recent events surrounding the NFL, its players and their audacity to thumb their collective noses at the American flag, the American military as well as the obvious disdain for the profession of law enforcement in general forces me to take a stand,” Whittington wrote. In 2016, the Bossier Parish sheriff’s office spent $346,519 buying 14 Ford police vehicles from Hixson Ford, according to CNBC. Back in 2015, the department spent $400,612 buying 15 Ford models at an average price of $26,700. In the letter, Whittington also called on other law enforcement agencies and leaders to boycott Ford Motor Co. for supporting a “disrespectful National Football League.”“NO MORE FORD MOTOR COMPANY VEHICLES,” the sheriff wrote in the post’s description. The kneeling from NFL players was first started in September of last year by Colin Kaepernick to protest “police brutality” and “racial injustice,” but many fans have said it is not the place or time to do so.As television ratings and stadium audience numbers continue to fall this season, this is one of the first public cases of an outside sponsor losing business due to the controversy, according to CNBC.The letter posted publicly on the Sherriff’s official Facebook page has gone viral since it was first posted on Wednesday, Oct. 11. (Taos County Sheriff’s Office) Man Arrested at New Mexico Compound Is Son of Prominent Imam in Brooklyn By Petr Svab August 9, 2018 Updated: October 5, 2018 Show Discussion Crime and Incidents Sharecenter_img Share this article  LINKEDINPINTERESTREDDITTUMBLRSTUMBLEUPON   The father of the man who’s accused of training children in New Mexico to commit school shootings is a prominent Brooklyn imam.Siraj Wahhaj, 68, has not only been a major figure in multiple national Muslim organizations, but was also linked to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. His son, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 39, was arrested Aug. 3 after Taos County Sheriff’s Office raided a makeshift compound in the Amalia community.Four other adults and 11 children were found at the compound—all relatives of the imam—including his daughters, Hujrah, 38, and Subhanah, 35; son-in-law, Luqman Morton; and daughter-in-law, Maryam (Jany) Leveille, 35.“We had learned the occupants were most likely heavily armed and considered extremist of the Muslim belief,” Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said in a release.Siraj Ibn Wahhaj was armed with an AR-15 rifle, five 30-round magazines, and four loaded pistols, “including one in his pocket when he was taken down,” the release stated. “Many more rounds of ammo were found in the makeshift compound that consists of a small travel trailer buried in the ground covered by plastic with no water, plumbing, or electricity.” The three mothers of the 11 malnourished children found living in a filthy New Mexico compound were arrested and charged. (Taos County Sheriff’s Office) The three mothers of the 11 malnourished children found living in a filthy New Mexico compound were arrested and charged. (Taos County Sheriff’s Office)All five adults were arrested and charged with 11 counts of child neglect. The children, who range in age from 1 to 15, were taken into protective custody and turned over to the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department. The authorities targeted the compound in search of Siraj Ibn’s disabled 3-year-old son, Abdul-Ghani, whom he allegedly kidnapped from the child’s mother, Hakima Ramzi, in East Point, Georgia, on Dec. 1.The father said he was taking the boy to a park, but never returned, according to Naeemah Rashid Wahhaj, the imam’s daughter-in-law, who raised awareness about the search for the boy on Facebook. Both Siraj Ibn and Leveille disappeared together with their children, “leaving cars in the driveway and house in tact,” she wrote in a Jan. 7 comment.Family at a Loss“If any of you know Hujrah, Subhanah, and Ibn Siraj, they are very close to their parents,” she wrote. “Not one of them have contacted their father or mother in over a month!”On Jan. 8, the boy’s mother pleaded for help with the search in a Facebook video. She also expressed puzzlement regarding her husband’s behavior.“I have been married with Ibn for 15 years now. It is not him. That’s not Ibn. He’s never abused me. He never treat me bad,” she said.Authorities said the father, at some point, told his wife he wanted to perform an exorcism on the boy, who cannot walk and requires constant care because of a lack of oxygen and blood flow around the time of birth. The remains of a child were found at the compound on Aug. 6. While relatives believe the remains are those of the missing boy, authorities haven’t yet announced a positive identification.Prosecutors say Siraj Ibn was conducting weapons training at the compound, readying the children for school shootings. The imam said he didn’t understand why his son had taken the family and disappeared into the desert, but suggested a psychiatric disorder was to blame.“My son can be maybe a little bit extreme,” he said, though he added that he never thought he was extreme enough to kill anyone.Siraj Wahhaj leads the Muslim Alliance in North America and was also the former vice-president of the Islamic Society of North America. He’s expressed opposition to extremism.Yet, his mosque has attracted radicals over the years, including a man who later had a role in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City.“Wahhaj has espoused support for radical Muslim causes and was an unindicted co-conspirator in the [bombing],” according to a 2011 training material for new FBI agents. He reportedly expressed a preference for an Islamic state over the American constitutional republic and also appeared as a defense witness at the trial of the “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdel-Rahman, who was convicted in 1995 of plotting terrorist attacks in the United States.Siraj Wahhaj didn’t respond to requests for comment. Naeemah Rashid Wahhaj said in a Facebook message that the family was not ready to talk and didn’t wish for her or anyone to talk either. The Associated Press contributed to this report.Correction: The article has been updated to correct the spelling of the name of Jany (Maryam) Leveille.Watch Next: Accused Florida Shooter’s Neighbors Sensed Something Amiss with Cruz from a Young AgeFollow Petr on Twitter: @petrsvab last_img read more

first_imgGavin McInnes attends “Creative Control” New York Premiere at Sunshine Landmark on March 3, 2016. (Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images) Share this article Politics Twitter suspended the account of libertarian commentator Gavin McInnes, as well as the accounts of his fraternal organization, the Proud Boys.“We can confirm that these accounts have been suspended from Twitter and Periscope for violating our policy prohibiting violent extremist groups,” a Twitter spokesperson told The Epoch Times via email on Aug. 11.When prompted, the spokesperson declined to specify what McInnes or the Proud Boys did to merit the banning. Proud Boys’ typical online content consists of mocking communism, socialism, and the Democratic Party. The Epoch Times reviewed posts on the Proud Boys’ Facebook page, as well as several incidents cited in media, but couldn’t find anything that could be identified as “violent extremism.”McInnes endorsed the Proud Boys to fight back when physically attacked, such as by members of the far-left extremist group Antifa. While scuffles and fistfights involving the two groups have been captured on video, it’s often difficult to discern who initiated the violence. The Proud Boys group’s core tenets focus on minimal government, individual rights, closed borders, entrepreneurship, and the traditional family. They relish in defying political correctness and in touting the Western culture as the best in the world.McInnes said the Twitter ban is part of a coordinated effort to damage right-of-center prospects for the midterm elections. “All this stuff is part of the conservative purge, getting the right off social media, to try to stop Trump from getting re-elected. He’s already won; the ship has sailed,” he said, according to BuzzFeed. “I think it will have zero effect on my reach or on the Proud Boys. We’ll always come back.”Gavin McInnes speaks at the "March Against Sharia" in New York Gavin McInnes speaks at the “March Against Sharia” in New York on June 10, 2017. (Eduardo Munoz Alvarez/Getty Images)CRTV, which hosts McInnes’s TV show, backed him in a statement.“Leftists use bloodthirsty mobs and elites in the liberal media and tech elite to muzzle the voices of anyone who won’t march in lockstep,” the statement reads. “They are working to undermine one of the core tenets of a free society.”Left-leaning groups, such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, have accused McInnes of racism. He denies that, pointing to the fact that Proud Boys come from various racial and ethnic backgrounds. In July, a group of Proud Boys was forced out of a Los Angeles bar by a protesting group of people from the Democratic Socialists of America Los Angeles chapter and the anti-gentrification group Defend North East Los Angeles. The protesters shouted profanities at the Proud Boys and argued with the bar’s owner to kick them out because “they’re Nazis.”McInnes said on Twitter after the incident that of the 19 Proud Boys in the bar, only three were non-Jewish, non-Hispanic whites, Fox News reported.McInnes had expressed sympathy in the past for Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, but in a 2013 column, he wrote that he changed his opinion after talking to Chileans who lived under Pinochet’s rule.“Whether you’re on the side of [former Venezuelan President Hugo] Chávez and [Argentinian Marxist guerilla leader] Che [Guevara], or that of Pinochet, the truth is that choosing sides and having these discussions is a luxury that wouldn’t be possible under any of those regimes. They are all oppressive,” he wrote. “I judge a culture on its ability to handle ridicule, and, by those standards, the West is still the best.”Watch Next:The First Ever Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom Inspires HopeThe freedom of belief was at the center of the United States’ founding.[epoch_video navurl=””][/epoch_video] Follow Petr on Twitter: @petrsvab Show Discussioncenter_img  LINKEDINPINTERESTREDDITTUMBLRSTUMBLEUPON   Share Twitter Shuts Down Accounts of Libertarian Gavin McInnes, Proud Boys By Petr Svab August 12, 2018 Updated: October 5, 2018last_img read more

first_img Share Senator Tony Avella’s campaign has condemned candidate John Liu’s recent mailer, in which he is presented as an ethics-driven candidate, despite his extensive history of flouting campaign finance laws. The mailer acclaims Liu wants to “restore integrity and ethics in government” as one of the bullet points that he will “fight for.” Liu’s previous campaign for New York mayor in 2013 fell apart after two of his staffers were convicted of federal corruption charges and sent to prison for using straw donors to illegally funnel contributions.Liu himself was fined $26,000 last year by the Board of Elections over the scheme and was also fined over $500,000 by the Environmental Control Board for poster violations—fines that he still has not paid for. Now 5 years later, Liu is re-entering politics again and is trying to unseat Avella in the state’s 11th district. They both are Democrats.“Scandal-ridden John Liu’s mailer is his latest attempt to bait and switch voters from his sordid past of corruption,” said Avella campaign spokesperson Jeff Frediani on Aug. 20. “If John Liu was really interested in government integrity, he would pay back the $500,000 in fines he accumulated from the City of New York.”Avella helped pass a law to cut pensions from public officials guilty of corruption charges. Liu did not respond to an emailed request for comment. Liu’s aides were also found to have ties to organized crime and China’s communist regime. His fundraiser, Xing Wu “Oliver” Pan, was executive vice chairman of the Fukien American Association that organizes events for visiting officials of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Chinatown. It is also associated with the Fuk Ching gang.Congestion CritiqueLiu has been a long-time supporter of congestion pricing, a fee system where people are charged more to enter certain heavy traffic zones during peak times. The revenue from this proposed system would then be put into repairs, such as New York’s crippling MTA subway system. But days ago, Avella’s campaign criticized Liu for his support of the idea, arguing it would raise the fees and tolls for Queens residents.Under the congestion pricing plan, drivers entering Manhattan from Northeast Queens would be charged $11.52 during peak hours for entering congestion Zones in Manhattan. This totals to about an additional $60 a week for the daily commute to work.“John Liu should be ashamed of himself for supporting congestion pricing,” Frediani said on Aug. 15. “The people of the 11th Senate District have been nickel and dimed for far too long while living in a transit desert.”“If scandal-ridden John Liu wants to help pay for the MTA, he can start by paying back the $500,000 in poster violations he still owes the City of New York.” Follow Bowen on Twitter: @BowenXiao3 John Liu and Kenneth Cole (rear) attend the 2013 Footwear Cares Community Service Week and National Volunteer Week announcement at City Hall in New York City on April 22, 2013.
