BANCROFT, Ont. – An Ontario church that saw the figures of Jesus and Mary swiped from its nativity scene will now celebrate Christmas with everyone accounted for.Provincial police say the figures were returned to the church in Bancroft, Ont., about 10 days after they initially disappeared. They say Jesus and Mary originally went missing from the front lawn of the church, where the nativity scene was set up in honour of the season.Police did not provide details on the return of the stolen figures.Const. Philippe Regamey says he suspects pranksters may have been behind the theft. He says neither the police nor the church wish to lay charges, but would still like to speak to anyone involved.“They don’t want any charges laid, of course, because it’s Christmas season,” he said. “It’s all about forgiveness and stuff.”
OTTAWA — A new study from Statistics Canada appears to suggest that 30- and 40-something Canadians are more likely to live the American dream of earning more than their parents than their counterparts south of the border. The research by the national statistics office found that overall, Canadian children who turned 30 and 40 between 2000 and 2014, earned more than their parents did at the same age. When looking at similar research about Americans’ incomes, Statistics Canada found that rates of absolute income mobility, or the percentage of children who earn more than their parents, were higher in the United States for children born in 1970.But things changed for children born between 1971 and 1984: Grown American children saw their economic outcomes substantially decline relative to their parents, while their Canadian counterparts saw their rates of income mobility remain relatively stable. While the figures, calculated in 2015 dollars, suggest that Canadians who recently turned 30 and 40 have fared better financially than their parents at the same age, federal politicians say there is still reason to be concerned about whether young people today will see the same economic opportunities.Emilie Gauduchon-Campbell, a spokeswoman for Social Development Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, said the study points to something the government has previously talked about: while income mobility in Canada has been strong for decades, it has also showed signs of stalling.“Insuring that every Canadian child has a fair and equal chance to succeed is a priority for our government, and we are committed to help today’s youth and families,” she said.“Yes, they are making more money, but the cost of living has increased quite a bit as well, so we have to look at both of those,” said Conservative families critic Karen Vecchio.Fotolia Vecchio pointed to the rising cost of housing, changes in family makeup and an evolving labour market with increases in precarious work as indicators that rising incomes alone don’t tell the whole story.“We have to recognize that we’re doing fine, but could we be doing better? And I think the answer is very much a yes there,” said Vecchio, who was born in 1971, one of the age cohorts included in the Statistics Canada study.NDP deputy finance critic Nathan Cullen said the data shouldn’t let the Trudeau Liberals believe all is well simply because incomes have grown over time.“Many Canadians are struggling to make ends meet and study after study show that the disparity between the wealthy and everyone else continues to grow,” Cullen said.“We need a government that works to support Canadians working precariously, not one that tells them to get used to it.”More than half of Canadians say they aren’t financially prepared if interest rates jump, expenses rise: survey‘Legendary fear of missing out’: Millennials aren’t writing off the home ownership dream just yetThe research published Tuesday found that of Canadians who turned 30 between 2000 and 2014, between 59 and 67 per cent — depending on the year — had a family income that was equal to, or greater than what their parents earned at the same age.The study says between 61 and 67 per cent — again, depending on the year being looked at — of those in the study had a higher family income at age 40 than their parents did at the same age.Statistics Canada said that any variations between years appears to correspond with general changes in the economy, a reference to the downturn in 2009 and the slow rebound that followed.A closer look at the numbers shows children with parents at the lowest income levels were more likely to have a higher family income than their parents did at age 30, while the opposite was true for those whose parents were among the top income earners. The Canadian Press

People should stop using e-cigarettes, especially those with marijuana ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), U.S. public health officials recommended on Friday, as an investigation into illnesses and deaths related to vaping deepens.E-cigarettes have been marketed as tools to help smokers quit, but rising use among youth in the United States and a spate of severe lung illnesses tied to the devices have triggered a backlash and heightened regulatory scrutiny. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has in the past advised consumers to avoid the devices, but the latest recommendation focused on THC products follows nationwide data that pointed to a large number of cases related to the use of the high-inducing component of marijuana. The CDC and state health officials, along with other health agencies, are investigating 805 confirmed and probable cases and 12 deaths so far from a mysterious respiratory illness tied to vaping, as of the latest update on Thursday.According to the research published by CDC on Friday, 514 of the 805 patients knew about substances used in their vaping products, with nearly 77% using THC-containing vapes.Story continues belowThis advertisement has not loaded yet,but your article continues below. However, this does not narrow the focus of the investigation as some users have also reported using e-cigarettes with just nicotine, CDC’s principal deputy director Anne Schuchat told reporters on Friday. The data showed that 56.8% used nicotine in their vapes, while 16% used vapes containing just nicotine in the 30 days preceding their symptoms.“We do not know yet what exactly is making people sick, for example, whether particular solvents or adulterants are leading to lung injury, or whether cases stem from a single supplier or multiple ones,” Schuchat said.Separate data from Wisconsin and Illinois showed that although no single brand name was reported by all patients, two-thirds of consumers reported using a prefilled THC cartridge under the brand name “Dank Vapes.”A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine earlier this month found that more than half of lung illness patients extensively interviewed in Wisconsin and Illinois reported having used the “Dank Vapes” brand.
A white theatre director, who describes himself as an “African born again”, has come under fire, after securing public funding intended to help ethnic minorities develop their stage careers.Anthony Lennon, 53, who was born in London and whose parents are Irish, won a place on a two year Arts Council funded scheme, after a leading black theatre company accepted his claim to be of “mixed heritage”.He was one of four “theatre practitioners of colour”, to be awarded part of a £400,000 talent development grant. But Mr Lennon has been accused of being a “racial imposter” after it emerged that despite changing his name to Taharka Ekundayo at one point, he is unquestionably white. The company involved, Talawa, which is one of the country’s leading black theatre groups, last night defended its position, insisting Mr Lennon was an “exceptional” person for the role.In a statement, a Talawa spokesman said: “As an artist of mixed heritage he is not only eligible for the position, but his experience, work and achievements make him an exceptional person for the role.”But Trevor Phillips, the former chair of the Commission for Racial Equality, said allowing people to self-identify on matters of race, inevitably meant members of the black Asian and ethnic minority (Bame) community lost out. Want the best of The Telegraph direct to your email and WhatsApp? Sign up to our free twice-daily Front Page newsletter and new audio briefings. “This is a very unusual case and we do not think it undermines the support we provide to black and minority ethnic people within the theatre sector.”But critics have blasted the decision, accusing Mr Lennon of taking up a position that should have gone to someone from the Bame community.Trevor Phillips said: “Institutions are so desperate these days to show how inclusive they are on issues of self-identification that I’m afraid I saw something like this coming.”The problem is of course that the people who lose out are the minorities. White liberals are so desperate to show how lovely they are to minorities that they do things that end up causing more harm.”We should be doing more to help individuals of talent from black and ethnic minority communities and we cannot do that if the few opportunities that exist are going to white people who are self identifying as something else.Habeeb Akande, a writer on race issues, said: “Many of us are becoming sick and tired of racial imposters who are commodifying blackness for their own financial gain. You cannot wear the cloak of blackness when it suits you.”Mr Lennon could not be contacted for comment. Anthony Lennon with the actress Indra Ove Anthony Lennon (right) with Chris Tummings Mr Lennon was born in Paddington, west London in 1965 to Irish parents who emigrated to Britain in the 1950s, A spokesman for the Arts Council said: “Talawa raised their wish to support Anthony with us. In responding we took into account the law in relation to race and ethnicity. His father, Patrick, was born in Waterford, while his mother Josephine O’Brien was raised in Tralee. He had two brothers and despite their White Irish heritage they all had dark complexions and curly hair.Writing about his experiences as a child, in the racially tense London of the late 1960s, Mr Lennon claimed he was regularly subjected to misdirected racist abuse, and as a result began to identify with black culture. After launching his career as an actor, Mr Lennon said he struggled to get parts for white characters and had more success landing black roles. In the book, Photo ID, he argued: “Everybody on the planet is African. It’s your choice as to whether you accept it.”He later wrote: “Some people call themselves a born-again Christian. Some people call me a born-again African. I prefer to call myself an African born again.”He has also talked about going through the “struggles of a black actor”.But he has at times also acknowledged his true ethnic heritage, telling a BBC documentary in 1990: “My parents are white, and so are their parents, and so are their parents, and so are their parents.”There is no suggestion Mr Lennon tried to mislead anyone is applying for a place on the Arts Council funded two year Artistic Director Leadership Programme.
Superior Industries offers a brand new, longer lasting model of its popular Chevron Pulleys. Manufactured with special high tensile steel, the new AR Chevron Pulley model is designed for conveyor owners who require extra high performance and guaranteed uptime at their material handling operations. Superior says its new AR Chevron Pulleys are available in Mine Duty and Super Duty models, in diameters of 254-mm to 1,067-mm and face widths of 305-mm to 1,905-mm. Superior encourages bulk handlers requiring sizes that exceed these options to contact their local Superior distribution partner.First introduced to the market in 2007, the Chevron Pulley is a V-shaped wing pulley designed to deflect fugitive material. As a result, the pulley lasts longer and better protects conveyor belts against punctures when compared to traditional wing pulleys. In addition, continuous pulley contact with the conveyor’s belting reduces a beating action caused by the pulleys wings and decreases pulley noise by 50 dB.

Over the years, though rarely, software developers have taken amusing measures to prevent piracy. The Secret of Monkey Island required you to match up pirate faces on a real-life wheel as a form of DRM, and Serious Sam 3 deployed an invincible, very fast pink scorpion in the game to constantly pester and damage the player. Now, if you pirate Tweetbot, you’ll be subject to another amusing form of punishment. The client doesn’t lock you out in some way, but instead makes tweeting pretty obnoxious. Early reports stated the program will force you to tweet a message saying that you pirated the app, and like it so much that you’re going to buy a copy, as seen below. However, Tapbots, the developer of Tweetbot, stated that the app doesn’t force you to tweet the message, but instead autofills the tweet composition box with the message, and users are free to delete the message before they tweet something.Tapbot had a reason for including an extra piracy deterrent: Twitter has a cap on the number of users a third party Twitter client is allowed, so people pirating the program are not only taking money away from the developer, but removing future legit customers by filling up their potential slots. However, it seems odd that people would post the message to Twitter even though Tapbots states that the pirates can simply delete the message before they send a tweet. Tapbots doesn’t know why users would opt to send the message anyway, but the company has offered up a likely suggestion: stupidity. So, while you should probably pay for a product that you regularly use and enjoy in the first place, if you don’t, you should keep in mind that just because a version is cracked doesn’t mean all of the anti-piracy measures are removed. They also might be hilarious.

I know it’s most likely not the case, but a) it would be damn cool if it did go down that way to get the reality of the shock on camera from all parties, b) it would give a less scripted feel to a lot of the same-old story lines we see again and again, and c) it would actually bring a little kick to the rest of the locker room to step it up as even they may not know what’s coming until the last second, thus forcing them to step up their game and not just call it in like many seem to do. I’m no armchair booker, but that kind of thing could really energize the lockerroom, which in turn would give new life to the product and new excitement to the fans, like us, who have been loyal and watching for years. Arsenal boss Unai Emery remained coy on the uncertainty surrounding Aaron Ramsey’s futureThe 27-year-old midfielder’s ongoing contractual situation at Arsenal has been well documented with Ramsey now into the final 12 months of his existing deal.Reports in the British media have suggested that Arsenal are willing to sell Ramsey in January rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.Although Ramsey does have the option of signing a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in the New Year with the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid reportedly interested. But Emery is choosing to keep his focus on Monday’s Premier League game with Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.Daniel Farke, From mid-table in the Championship to the Premier League Manuel R. Dunn, 15, be tried as an adult, where a potential sentence could be three times as harsh.Court-appointed defense attorney Michael Borge argued during Monday’s hearing that his client would be better served in the juvenile system, where he will receive counseling and an education.Olson argued that the seriousness of the alleged crime — two people were shot Feb. 19 and testified Monday of the resulting physical pain and emotional stress — merited that Dunn be tried as an adult.Judge Edwin Poyfair said that when he first heard about the shootings, his instinct was, “hang him by his heels.”But the veteran judge said he gave a lot of weight to the fact that two clinical psychologists and a probation counselor all recommended that Dunn be tried as a juvenile.
“This has been a really, really tough year.”Those were repeat defendant Nathan Gadberry’s final words Wednesday before being sentenced to 10 years in prison on drug charges. The sentence includes a two-year enhancement because the jury returned a special finding that the crimes were committed in a school zone. The 38-year-old Yacolt man, who was acquitted of serious felonies by juries twice in the last year, was convicted by a jury on Feb. 10 with co-defendant Danielle Newton of possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to deliver. Newton’s sentencing was postponed so the judge could consider her for the Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative, which would combine treatment with the sentence. In handing down his sentence Wednesday, Clark County Superior Court Judge Scott Collier said he would not consider the other two trials because Gadberry was not convicted. But he said he would consider the more than five felony convictions on his record, as well as numerous misdemeanors.Gadberry’s court-appointed attorney, Jason Bailes, had asked the judge to also consider the Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative for Gadberry. The attorney said his client was an addict, but not a ringleader of methamphetamine dealing in Clark County.“It’s not a shock to the evidence that, yes, I’m a drug addict,” Gadberry said, when it was his turn to speak. “I don’t go out robbing people. I’m a drug addict.”

The total investment is estimated at approximately $157 million. The project was solidified after the town and Analog Devices came to terms on a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) agreement, which was ratified by residents at last year’s Annual Town Meeting. Under the TIF, the town continues to collect 100% of existing real estate tax revenue, but allows for a tax exemption based on the increased assessed value due to property improvements. The tax incentive is a discount on projected future taxes during the life of the proposed TIF.The key terms of the final agreement, as relayed by Town Manager Jeff Hull, include:Tax relief of $4.3 million based on value from new construction only with a maximum duration of eight (8) years whichever comes first;$700,000 to be waived in building permit fees which would be charged on this new construction;TIF to begin in the year in which there is taxable value from construction on the property;Analog commits to create 50 new jobs over five (5) years;Analog committees to relocate 450 employees from their Chelmsford and Norwood facilities to the newly expanded Wilmington campus;Analog commits not to file for a property tax abatement during the life of the TIFMike Errera, Vice President of Supply Chain Planning & Logistics and General Manager of Analog Devices, was recently in front of the Wilmington Board of Selectmen to provide a status update on the project.“We’re right on schedule and budget at this stage,” announced Errera. “We’re excited about getting this done and consolidating our Massachusetts team here in Wilmington. The new office building is also in the middle of construction, with occupancy expected in the summer of 2020. Norwood employees will be moved to Wilmington at that point. Once new construction is complete, the existing office buildings will be renovated, with Chelmsford employees moving in 2021.Errera showed renderings of the new hub building, which will feature an auditorium, forum space, reception area, gym with yoga studio, and roof deck patio space.
